A great survival horror game that plays great on iOS

I have been a fan of this game since it’s initial release around 2014, and have replayed it almost every year (around Halloween of course). I’ve played it across multiple platforms, on Xbox/PS4, PC and even the Switch (I wanted to play it while on vacation). It’s hard to compete with the PC version but this port on iOS is phenomenal if you have reasonably new iPhone or iPad and a backbone controller, or just connect a console controller. Obviously using touch screen controls is not ideal, but I don’t think you should expect to go into a game released on consoles ported to iOS to have that be the preferred option.

The games atmosphere and visuals are kept entirely intact, and the game runs perfectly fine and looks amazing on my M1 iPad Air as well as my iPhone (that is currently the latest model). I can’t speak to how it runs on older devices however, but considering how the Nintendo Switch is able to run a reasonable looking port of it, I would expect it might run just fine on the performance mode on some older iOS devices if you change the Video settings appropriately.

a few suggestions

The game itself is REALLY good, the graphics surprisingly don’t affect anything inside the game and the mechanics are very unique from what I’ve seen in other games. But one of the few things I wanted to mention was that some parts of the game (objectives/tasks) were unclear to me at times and so I got lost multiple times; and I’m talking about the times where I didn’t have my scanner. If you do plan on updating the game, I suggest adding a sandbox game mode where you could make your own maps with specific walls and all that other stuff, also being able to add enemies like the aliens or androids. And back to the topic where it was hard to find your objective— you could add an arrow pointer that leads you where to go if the game detects that you haven’t been doing the task for “5-10” minutes. Thank you for not only adding this to mobile but for creating the game itself.

Technical marvel

“Wow” is an appropriate description of an amazing port of an already amazing game. It’s insane to think nowadays that you can get this type of gaming experience natively on a tablet that’s razor thin and weighs literally a pound. Yes, the PS4 and Xbox One are nearly 9 years old pieces of hardware, but compared to how the game looks and runs on the M1 iPad Pro, it makes the duo look like ancient technology.

Aside from the technical aspects, Alien: Isolation is one of the greatest horror experiences in gaming. That fact that you can take it anywhere on a wide range of mobile devices now makes it that much better. Slap a couple of wireless earbuds in, grab a game pad of your choice, and it’s oh so easy to immerse yourself in the sheer terror of being hunted by the Xenomorph.

TLDR; Excellent port technically of an amazing game. If you’re a fan of the series or love horror experiences, absolutely worth the purchase.
